The editing in Skins helps to show the relationships between characters in the scene, as well as drive the narrative. Parallel editing emphasises the relationship between the boy and the girl. We can tell they are brother and sister through the way their scenes are linked; the camera constantly switches between them when the boy is distracting the father, and furthermore these frequent cuts (along with the pace of the cuts) show the action of the scene.
There is no obvious equilibrium shown throughout the scene, which could also suggest that there may be issues between the characters to begin with, and could therefore be foreshadowing a possible conflict that may bring about a new equilibrium or increase the disequilibrium.
